Edge Hill University
Student Accommodation
The challenge
Edge Hill University required its student accommodation to be upgraded to meet current standards and support day-to-day campus life.
The works needed to be delivered within a live, fully occupied building, requiring a careful and considered approach to minimise disruption. The project involved working around students, restricted hours, and shared circulation spaces, while accommodating non-standard room dimensions and existing services.
Previous options explored did not fully balance practicality, durability, and cost, placing the project at risk. A robust and value-engineered solution was required to deliver high-quality accommodation suited to heavy student use while remaining within budget.
The solution
Through workshops and consultancy, a phased project was delivered to refurbish student accommodation at Edge Hill University whilst the campus remained operational. The works included the design, manufacture, and installation of bespoke FF&E for 200 bedrooms and 32 kitchens, tailored to existing building conditions. Value engineering ensured a durable, high-quality solution delivered within budget with minimal disruption.
Edge Hill University now has upgraded student accommodation that meets the needs of its students while supporting daily campus life. The refurbished bedrooms and shared kitchens provide practical, durable spaces designed for long-term use.
By understanding the client’s requirements and the importance of remaining within budget, appropriate solutions were delivered to provide high-quality accommodation at a cost the university could afford.
